Nordic Hotel Forum

Dear guests,

2012 is here! And looking back on the year gone by, I think we can say it was a pretty good one. The major growth we saw in guest numbers was the result of several years’ hard work, supported of course by Tallinn 2011 as the European Capital of Culture. The hotel – and the market generally – bounced back from the recession during the year a lot quicker than we’d forecast we would even 12 months previously. We received very positive feedback from visitors as a business, conference and cultural venue, too. Our market share rose and we became the main accommodation partner in Tallinn to quite a lot of you. So thanks, everyone, for making that happen!

2012 will mark Nordic Hotel Forum’s first big anniversary – at the end of the year we’ll be turning 5! I hope the year is as successful for you and us alike as 2011 proved to be, despite the economic and political uncertainty prevailing around the world. Think positive and work hard!

Add a bit of sparkle to your evening in the lobby bar!

It’s become something of a tradition for our head chef, Oleg Alasi, to provide the ‘surprise’ for every new edition of our newsletter – and he certainly hasn’t let us down this time!

Oleg’s not just renowned as a chef for the meals he plates up: he’s also famous for his appetisers. But why only read about it when you can find out for yourself! Oleg has put together two mouth-watering platters you can sample, along with a glass of sparkling wine, any night of the working week starting from 17:00.

There are two platters to choose from: in addition to the more traditional savoury variety, there’s also a sweet selection. The former boasts goat’s cheese cream with raspberry sorbet, tuna tartar with cucumber, artichoke hummus with duck, teriyaki chicken with pineapple and cowberry salad and a shrimp pocket with pickled daikon. The latter will tempt you with coconut sorbet, a ‘sweet cactus’ jelly ball, caramelised banana (a perennial favourite) with raspberry mousse, a vitamin C-packed orange praline, an exciting apricot and cheese lollypop and an ever-popular chocolate cheesecake with waffle.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? So why not treat yourself after a hard day’s work by the fire here at the hotel, or before heading off to the theatre or cinema, or as part of a romantic evening for two?

Villu Veski anniversary concert

Apart from offering people high-quality accommodation services, part of our mission here at the hotel is to support worthwhile cultural events that locals (and visitors) will really enjoy. That’s why we’ve been sponsoring film, fashion, music and sports events for as long as we have. One of them – indeed one of our oldest partners – is the Muhu future music festival ‘Juu jääb’.

‘Juu jääb’ isn’t just a fantastic festival in its own right, but was the brainchild of an equally wonderful man: Villu Veski. To mark his 50th birthday, he’ll be giving a special concert at the Estonia Concert Hall – a true temple to classic music – today, on Thursday 19 January. Joining him on stage will be the Tallinn Saxophone Quartet, the Voices of the Nordic Islands, Tango Nuevo, Sergei Manukjan & Avicenna and more. The MC for the evening will be the evergreen-voiced Mati Talvik.

Our thanks to Villu for placing his trust in us as his partner, and our congratulations on this special occasion!

TripAdvisor.com gives Nordic Hotel Forum a high rating

In addition to cities and destinations, TripAdvisor.com also reviews hotels so that travellers are aware of the best places to stay. Here it’s important to note that they’re not ranked by big name committees, but people who have actually stayed in the hotels. The results are therefore far more reliable, since they’re based on personal experience.

81 hotels in Tallinn have been reviewed by TripAdvisor.com – and we’re proud to say that Nordic Hotel Forum is in the top 5! We’re commended for our location as well as our contemporary design. Our breakfasts come in for a lot of praise, too, with world travellers pleasantly surprised by what’s on offer.

We’re glad to have made such a positive impression on our guests and promise to do everything we can to continue doing so in future!
