When the President of Estonia opens Tallinn Music Week with a speech quoting Jello Biafra and PJ Harvey, you know you are in a cool country.

These were the words used by Amy Liptrot, a music critic, when introducing Estonia to more than half a million fans of PJ Harvey in Facebook.

TREFF festival captures the old town

Already for the sixth time, the Estonian Puppet Theatre NUKU organises an international festival TREFF, which brings from 24th to 27th May to the streets of Tallinn old town all kinds of performing arts – drama, dance, puppet theatre, street theatre, performance art, and music. In this year, too, the festival will host in Tallinn the world’s top visual and puppetry productions from Estonia and other countries, e.g. from England, France, Belgium, Italy, Slovenia, Finland, Spain, and Russia.
Theatre is in particular loved by kids. Therefore, a special emphasis has been put on TREFF’s children programme, which includes many fabulous productions for children. In addition to classical puppet productions, fresh approaches and new twists are offered by performing arts students from Estonia and abroad.
This is a really cool event! If you want to experience something exciting and different, TREFF is exactly for your, because the festival’s programme offers fascinating pieces for everyone.
Nordic Stars at end of May in Estonia As a tradition already, the Nordic Symphony Orchestra will perform in Tallinn also this spring. This time, the orchestra will stand before the audience on 29th and 30th May with a gala concert “Nordic Stars” at Estonia Concert Hall. Under the always brilliant conductor Anu Tali, the Nordic Symphony Orchestra will again offer its excellent soloists and the world classics. The programme includes works by Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Massenet, Brahms, Copland, Ravel, Grieg, and our own composer Tubin.

With this long-term cooperation we have laid the foundations for the tradition of the Nordic Symphony Orchestra performing in Tallinn. We expect you on each day and time, if you want to enjoy the Nordic symphonists at the end of May in Tallinn; we suggest you buy tickets soon, because they are usually sold out very quickly, as the orchestra performs here only twice a year.
Our visitor offered fun with chess pieces

Our hotel guests come from various professions. For us it is, of course, not important what a person does, but that he or she would respect the modern environment and good location. But we would always welcome it, if a top-level specialist shares in our hotel the knowledge in the area he is the best at.
In April, Nordic Hotel Forum was pleased to welcome Garry Kasparov, an internationally known Russian opposition politician, who is, in addition, a legendary chess grandmaster and a promoter of chess education. In order to support the growth of maybe the next chess champion in Estonia, he initiated an international project Chess in School.
At this event, the grandmaster played with 20 young Estonian chess players of different age groups. The battles held at the chess tables were tough and not all the opponents of the grandmaster were among the easiest. Although no junior player could actually beat the master, two Estonian chess hopefuls had a draw with him, one of whom, with the highest rating, is only 14 years old, Estonian champion in rapid chess, Ottomar Ladva.
We wish on behalf of our hotel, success to all Estonian chess players and hope that soon one of the young players, who had a battle with Garry Kasparov, will be a chess grandmaster.
